I was lucky to be heading up design at a turning point for NPR, a point where they were leaning way in on getting digital. As a result I was able to redesign every app they had, for iPhone, Android, iPad, even an in-dashboard UI for automobile apps.
NPR One was easily my favorite combo design/branding project. The app is a segment-by-segment, on-demand listening app. Like a Pandora for news. The future of radio, in my opinion.
We developed the product strategy and positioning for NPR One in concert with the newsroom, inventing a new procedurally generated narrative content flow along the way. I also served as the creative director for the UI, promotional campaign, and the product identity system. My team named the app, and I wrote the launch campaign tag: “Public radio made personal.”
